French Military Medal
Why do most North Americans speak English today rather than French? In large part because of the French and Indian War. By the war's end, the French had been ousted from their strongholds along the St. Lawrence River and through the Ohio Valley, and the British assumed control of the continent. During the French Regime, more than 200 Canadians were given the Royal Order of St. Louis medal in recognition of their military valor in battles against British, colonists and American Indians.
